The music options are one of the groups of options available under the options window. They can be used to ensure that all your music files have consistent formatting. The music options are split into the following categories:
If the same word appears in both the Force Case (Middle Words) list and the Force Case (All Words) list, then the Force Case (MIddle Words) list takes precedence.
After executing a music scan, the resulting replacements available should satisfy most users. If some replacements are undesirable, either modify a suitable replacement command or a list parameter or, instead, make the changes using the custom search/replace.
Music Information Insertion
Information from music file tags or from the music file format can be inserted in the filename. Supported tags include MP3 (ID3v1 or ID3v2), Ogg Vorbis, or Flac. Available information includes Artist, Title, Album, Genre, Year, Track, Bit Rate, Bit Rate Type (MP3 Only), and Length (or Play Time). The Bit Rate is shown in 'Kbps'. A fully customizable formatter allows you to specify tag codes to insert. The codes correspond to different information frames available in the tag header. If the frame information corresponding to the code is found in the header without any errors, then the information will be inserted. Otherwise, the tag code will be replaced according to a configurable option that lets you either replace the missing information with a null string or a default string. The default string is the code used in the custom formatter. e.g. %Artist% is inserted if the artist information is missing. A problem declaration could also be produced according to a configurable option that sets the scanner to declare an error, warning, or do nothing if a tag to be inserted is missing.
If any unprintable characters or invalid filename characters such as ':', '?', '<', '>', '*', '/', or '\' are in the tag information, then an illegal character error will be produced.
Any other valid characters can also be specified with the codes. A text panel will show an example of what the formatted output will look like. The output is based on a sample file that has most of the meta data in it. The codes will be highlighted with the colour red.
The Grouping feature is a configurable option for music information insertion.
The processing time for tag-based information insertion is slow compared to the other pre-defined renaming commands because the files have to be opened, searched for the tag information, and the tags interpreted. However, the processing time when specifying any of the BitRate, Length, or Bit Rate Type codes, can be much larger than that for any of the other codes since these types of information are contained in the frames of the file and not the header.
